Pine-Tree Dairy is owned and operated by Matt Steiner and his sons. Matt & Gail’s seven sons each have a role in the operation. Nate is a practicing DVM who handles the ET work and herd health. Joel manages the crops, calf-operation, and the 201 Dairy, Luke manages the employees, milking schedule, and the 511 Dairy, & Aaron works with feeding at the various farms, and giving shots for the ET program. Andrew & Ethan (twins) handle office work & marketing, and Matthew Jr. is in charge of A.I. responsibilities. Andrew teaches high school at a local private school, Ethan is a mental-health counselor, and Matthew is a student at the University of Akron. Everyone helps contribute to mating and purchasing decisions. Also, a great group of full & part-time employees round out the work force.

The herd consists of 350 milking head on the home farm, 250 milking cows at Pine-Tree 201 in Millersburg, 30 miles south, and 200 head at Pine-Tree 511 in Ashland, 30 miles west of Rittman. The Ashland dairy is a certified organic operation. Both heifers and cows are used as recipients. Reliable health traits from proven cow families with longevity describe their breeding goals. Close attention is paid to productive life, somatic cell, and daughter pregnancy rate. While Pine-Tree occasionally consigns to Holstein auctions around the country, private sales make up the majority of their marketing.
